Hamilton Locke appoints Intellectual Property Special Counsel

Hamilton Locke is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Gilkes as Special Counsel, to bolster the firm with her intellectual property (IP) expertise. Sarah is an experienced commercial and IP lawyer, focused on the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property and technology assets.

Sarah began her expansive career as a commercial lawyer and moved into IP commercialisation, and has now worked in the IP field for over a decade. She joins Hamilton Locke from IP specialist firm, mdp Law, where she worked with innovative companies and entrepreneurs in the ITC, creative, manufacturing and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors. Throughout her career she has held numerous advisory and Board positions for start-up companies, SMEs and not-for-profit organisations, and has also represented a number of high-profile performers and sportspeople on IP matters. Sarah began her legal career with Ryan Lawyers (now part of Withers Worldwide SBL), and has also worked in-house at the University of New South Wales in its Division of Enterprise.

Sarah works with clients to protect and develop new innovations; building a pathway to market which ensures commercial priorities are upheld and domestic and international growth targets are supported. She is particularly skilled in the technology and digital sectors, with her experience including technology transfers, SaaS, eCommerce, and distributed ledger technologies. Sarah also assists clients with proposed acquisitions and private capital / venture capital investments, reviewing the IP portfolios of targets to validate any valuation assumptions.

Hamilton Locke’s Managing Partner, Nick Humphrey, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sarah to the team and to offer her considerable IP experience to our clients.”
